A thank-you from Alabama Chamber
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 4, 2011 11:07 am
The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama would like to publicly thank the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce for the kind and generous support it has given us by joining our chamber for a year. The membership dues will help to sustain our operations during a very difficult period for all of us in Tuscaloosa.
The deadly tornado that struck our community on April 27 left a massive path of destruction. Tragically, 41 of our fellow citizens lost their lives and more than 7,000 homes and businesses in Tuscaloosa County were destroyed or damaged.
Our chamber will face unprecedented challenges in the months ahead. In addition to focusing on the priority strategies in our business plan, it is essential that we continue our work to assist businesses with recovery efforts. Local governments are counting on us to provide essential information and services to the business community, assist with disaster relief efforts and participate in strategic planning for rebuilding programs. At the same time, we anticipate a net decline in chamber memberships and dues revenues as a result of the large number of businesses destroyed or damaged during the storm.
It is comforting to know that we have the support of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. While we cannot replace the lives that were lost during the storm, we must move forward in rebuilding our great community.
Terry Waters
Executive Director

Commerce of
West Alabama
