A loss for Gazette subscribers

Dismissing Lyz Lenz diminishes The Gazette.
It is also a victory for those in power, who show no interest in being held to account. Iowa Republicans, in particular, are especially weary of meddlesome journalism - and with good reason. ('Republicans snub The Gazette, but the door remains open,” by Todd Dorman, Oct. 4)
Now, a degree of oversight is lost. While I'm sure the interval will be a difficult one for Lenz, I'm certain she will end up fine. The loss is ours: Gazette subscribers and more broadly every citizen of Iowa who depends on the critical work this newspaper provides.
The Gazette remains one of Iowa's premiere newsgathering outfits. I hope this is but one mistake, not a harbinger of decline.
