A fair tax cut is what Iowa needs

A “flat tax” is often referred to as a “fair tax,” but is based on a rather wealth centered point of view, looking for the lower end of our wage earners to pay the same percentage from their income as the upper end. That’s only “fair,” right? Of course, it’s fair that a tax cut that will afford some another vacation in Cancun will only give others enough to pay for part of a trip to the grocery store.
If we really want to talk “fairness” let’s consider a “fair tax cut” option. Since we are in such a great financial position due to our frugal leadership and a rosy economic outlook let’s cut or get rid of the state’s sales tax instead of another income tax cut that really only benefits the well off. A sales tax cut would impact everyone so it would be distributed “fairly” at all levels of income. It is one with an immediate impact to our economy by reducing the costs of the goods we buy and the more goods we buy the greater your tax savings. It is one that would even provide an incentive for out of state visitors to come to “Buy Iowa.”
So, let’s think outside the box Iowa and instead of going the same old “trickle down” tax cut move rebranded in the “feed the party donor of today” rhetoric, let’s do something that really is both fair and economically beneficial to all Iowans.
