7-year-olds should not handle guns

To the editor:
Our legislators are lacking common sense if they approve of a 7-year-old child handling a gun of any type. They evidently have forgotten about the shooting instructor who was accidentally killed while teaching a child how to handle a gun with her parents' supervision.
Weapons should be handled with great care and with the knowledge of the damage and destruction they can cause, and children of that age are not capable of understanding this. It looks like some parents and legislators don't understand it either.
