5 years is sufficient for option tax for streets

Regarding Dorothy Krivanek's Aug. 22 letter, “Street repairs could be done in less time”: We are in total agreement. Five years for 1 cent local-option tax is sufficient. By then, the casino will be up and running and plenty of money will be coming into the city for use where needed. Five years would more than likely be accepted and the streets could be put back in fine shape. What is earmarked for the money that the city will benefit from the casino? Will a portion be set aside for street maintenance?

We have lived in Cedar Rapids since December 1989 and other than Johnson Avenue east of Edgewood Road where a few blocks were resurfaced, very few if any of the streets on the northwest side have had anything done except patch on top of patches. O Avenue is literally a very dangerous street with how rough all the patching has caused.

Cedar Rapids can be beautified to the Nth degree, but one needs good surface streets to arrive at the events offered.
