21-only ordinance just makes sense

If you believe it is not just “having a beer” but rather “industrial-strength” drinking - of University of Iowa students who drink, 70 percent report binge drinking - then you want to vote “no” to repealing the 21-only ordinance in Iowa City.
If you believe there is oversaturation of liquor licenses (around 50) in downtown Iowa City, then you want to vote “no.”
If you think the noise and nuisance ordinances, keg registration regulations and a greater police presence in our neighborhoods will effectively deal with house parties, then you want to vote “no.”
If you're pleased because we've already seen a noticeable reduction in the alcoholic magnetism of our downtown to out-of-town, underage drinkers, then you want to vote “no.”
If you believe the statistics that document a wonderful drop in the number of alcohol-related emergency room visits and reported sexual assaults since the institution of the 21-only ordinance, then you want to vote “no.”
If you want our community to do all it can to protect underage drinkers, and to make downtown Iowa City the best it can be, then please join me in voting “no” to the repeal of the 21-only ordinance.
