1 incident not enough to enforce parking ban

It is a sad state when three dozen older residents can manipulate the Hiawatha City Council to initiate a parking ban on both sides of one city block (on Blairsferry Crossing between Miller Road and the east side of Ridgewood Drive) for what they call “safety” issues.
We have lived in this area of concern for almost four years and have never seen a close call. What's even more remarkable is that this city ban will have no impact in this neighborhood
97 percent of the time.
As this area is still being developed, there is construction traffic all day without incident. In the six weeks this issue was discussed by City Council, we know of only one example of a “near miss” reported by residents requesting this parking ban. One incident hardly constitutes a need for council action.
I hope this isn't an example of how a City Council represents all of its residents.
