Getting slimed - covered in that sticky, gooey, gross stuff - is practically a rite of passage.
Nickelodeon has been sliming celebrities and kids for nearly 40 years, dumping pounds of green slime on their heads. There are endless pranks you can pull with the oozing gunk.
You can make your own slime at home using borax powder, glue, food coloring and water. Those ingredients might already be in your kitchen or, if you need supplies, you can pick them up for free at the Cedar Rapids Public Library. Just call 319-261-READ.
How to make slime
1. Add borax powder to ¾ cup of water and stir briskly to dissolve.
2. Pour glue into a second bowl and add a little bit less than ½ cup of water to the glue. You can add in extra water later if needed.
3. Mix until smooth.
4. If you're using ingredients from the library, your glue will have food coloring already added to it. If not, add your own now. Stir borax solution one more time before adding it to your glue and water mixture.
5. Stir for a few minutes and then use your hands to gather the slime mixture. Keep kneading the mixture until it feels firm and smooth. Discard extra water. You can store your slime in a zip-lock to keep it fresh and hydrated.
