Last month, the Cedar Rapids Public Library celebrated April as National Poetry Month by hosting a workshop.
We asked kids to submit their poetry for a chance to be featured in the Kids Gazette! Here is a poem written by Aarna and Vrishank Pandey submitted by Aarna.
Aarna writes that her brother, who is autistic, wanted to create a poem together about their love for God.
God’s Love by Vrishank and Aarna Pandey
A voice beckons me to the ocean so deep,
Urging me to take a quantum leap.
Restless, I wake up amidst the twinkling stars,
Under the gray sky and a gleaming Mars.
The voice does not disturb the tranquillity of the night
As I pave toward the ocean engulfing the shore with its might.
Standing on the sands, I feel the warmth of the waves
As they rise and fall on the glimmering caves.
Enchanted by the beauty, I follow the voice so sweet.
Ah! The melody immerses me in love with each beat.
The stars and the moon seem under a spell,
A thirst so deep which the oceans cannot quell.
I enter the caves with a pounding heart,
Anxious and curious from the start.
Unaware of my presence, a nightingale sings mellifluously
Immersing me in love with its flawless symphony.
I admire this creation of nature with awe,
Its artistic beak and a chiseled jaw.
Its voice creates the music of love
For the creatures on earth and the heavens above.
Tears of joy fell down from my eyes,
And God, my maker, implores me to rise
From the shadows of failures and rejections I fear
To remind me of the truth that he’s forever here.
His love so intense tranquilizes my fearful soul,
A love that deluges the world as a whole.
I forget the dejection of the friendships I never had.
With God by my side, there’s no reason to be sad.
A love so pious motivates me to walk ahead
With empathy in my heart and wisdom in my head.
My thirst for a friend quenches as I realize
That alone we have come and alone we shall die.
