IOWA CITY — The Children’s Charity of Iowa gave away 40 free bikes to kids in the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor last week.
The Children’s Charity of Iowa, a nonprofit based in Des Moines, is dedicated to improving the lives of children who are at risk, underprivileged, critically ill or living with special needs. Bikes directly impact a child and their family by instilling a sense of responsibility and facilitating a the simple joy of riding a bike, according to a news release from Variety, the Children’s Charity of Iowa.
Bikes often go hand-in-hand with being a kid, but for many children in Eastern Iowa, the prospect of owning their own bike is only a dream, according to a news release from Variety. Variety helps make that dream a reality by providing bikes, helmets and bike locks to children in Iowa.
The bikes were built by Cummins Inc. employees who volunteered their time to build them for kids in need. Volunteers worked together to build the easy-to-assemble bikes and professionals completed a safety check before they were given to children.
Variety bikes also help provide recreation and address the importance of exercise and good health.
More than $134 million has been raised since 1974, to support children throughout the state by Variety, the Children’s Charity of Iowa. Variety is making a better future for the community by connecting people who care to programs that enable children to reach their full potential.
