A Fairfield ice cream shop has grown its distribution area into Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Decorah using a KIVA Iowa loan. Scream Ice Cream opened a shop in Fairfield earlier this year and used the loan to help fund a freezer truck.

The Green House in Iowa City was the second plant bar in the state, and they’re using a KIVA Iowa loan to help purchase equipment and expand food offerings.

Owner Jermaine Wilson used trips back to Philly to serve as the foundation of his business, Jay’s Water Ice. Wilson is now working to grow his Philadelphia Water Ice business in Eastern Iowa.

A former Party City manager is finalizing a location to open a local party goods store after Party City closed earlier this year. The store will start with an inventory of plates, napkins, tablecloths in various themes and utensils to start.

One business will be selected Aug. 13 to receive six months of free rent, a year of mentorship and other benefits to support growth of small businesses in downtown Cedar Rapids. The contest has returned after a hiatus since its debut in 2022. Applications are due June 30.

Larry Tiah has watched his southeast Cedar Rapids store, Hela African Food Market, grow. The store features a variety of African foods and seasonings as well as clothing. KIVA loans have helped the business grow.

The temperature-controlled indoor garage is located about one-third of a mile from the terminal and has long-term and short-term parking options and a free shuttle. Rates are $27 for indoor and $18 for outdoor parking, per day.
