Xavier qualifies five students for state math competition

On Saturday, January 14, nine Xavier students competed in the Iowa Falls Alden Invitational Math Competition. Students representing Xavier include Ben Biggins, Josh Hewitt, David Kirpes, Matthew Kirpes, Edward Krouse, James Krouse, Daniel Pape, Jacob Schmitt and Alex Tietz.
In the Target Round, James Krouse took first place and David Kirpes took third place for grade 11 while Jacob Schmitt placed first for grade 10 and Edward Krouse placed first for grade 9. In the Sprint Round, James Krouse took 1st place for grade 11, Jacob Scmitt took 3rd place for grade 10, and Edward Krouse placed 3rd for grade 9.
Overall, the Xavier team qualified five students for the state competition, to be held on April 21 at Iowa City West, and finished 2nd in the Invitational. The students qualifying for state include James Krouse, David Kirpes, Edward Krouse, Daniel Pape, and Jacob Schmitt.
