On Thursday, April 18, Xavier High School will welcome Renee Firestone, an 89-year old Holocaust survivor, who will address the junior class, painting a picture for the audience of the struggles that Jewish people faced while in Auschwitz.
Firestone was forced into the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp when she was just 16 years old, where she remained until she was released at the age of 20.
Firestone's experience at Auschwitz illustrates the extent of the horror of Nazi torture that was experienced by Jewish prisoners. Her deeply personal stories demonstrate how race, class and gender work together to form social mechanisms that are the building blocks of oppression.
