Water problems surface at new Linn-Mar stadium
Apr. 26, 2011 7:55 am
Linn-Mar's new multipurpose stadium is 98 percent complete but has some serious water-related problems that need to be addressed, Associate Superintendent Rick Ironside told school board members last night.
The problems include downspouts that are emptying rainwater into the stadium's main plaza and additional water penetration into the press box and concession areas.
Ironside and Linn-Mar Superintendent Katie Mulholland are planning to meet with owners and architects at RGD of Des Moines, which designed the stadium, this week and next week to determine if the problems are design-related.
The stadium is currently being used for soccer and track. This fall it will become Linn-Mar's home football field.
The new stadium complex, which includes additional parking already in use, is expected to cost between $9.6 million and $10 million.
It replaces flood-prone Armstrong Field.
Water issues have surfaced at Linn-Mar's new football stadium, still under construction in Marion.
