Upper Iowa to freeze 2013-14 tuition

A tuition freeze is planned next year for students at Upper Iowa University, school officials announced Monday.

Acting President Richard Patrick said in a statement officials are aware that financial challenges continue for many students and their families, and the university wanted to commit to help students access education.

The Upper Iowa board of trustees approved the one-year tuition freeze for 2013-14 for students on the Fayette campus. The board also agreed to hold to 3 percent the increase in room and board costs on campus, according to a university statement.

Tuition on the Fayette campus will remain $24,400 under the plan, with room and board costs determined by which residence hall and meal plan students select.

Upper Iowa has about 1,000 students on the Fayette campus. Tuition rates for other Upper Iowa learning experiences and programs have not been determined, officials said.
