IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa is the 29th best public national university in the country, according to the latest rankings by U. S. News & World Report.
The magazine's Best Colleges 2010 guide was released today.
That's a drop of three spots by the UI in the ranking of public universities. The UI was 26th in 2009, 24th in 2008 and 25th in 2007.
The UI ranks 71st, a drop of five spots, in the “Best National Universities” category, which includes 262 U.S. universities - 164 public and 98 private.
Harvard University topped the list, following by Princeton.
The UI is among 22 schools recognized by U.S. News as making writing a priority at all levels and across the curriculum.
UI President Sally Mason said the UI wears the rankings with pride.
“Even in the midst of significant economic challenges and the disruptions of last year's flood, the University of Iowa remains one of the nation's most highly ranked public universities,” she said.
The annual U. S. News & World Report “America's Best Colleges” guide is scheduled for publication in the magazine's September issue, on newsstands Monday, and available online today at
