IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa wants student ideas about late-night entertainment, and is willing to pony up cash for them.
In less than a week, the Iowa City ordinance keeping people younger than 21 out of bars at night begins. An existing UI program offers grants for student-generated entertainment ideas, and officials are reminding students of this program as a way to fill the late-night activity void.
The Late Night at Iowa grant program has a $50,000 pot of funding for student- generated ideas. They want students to create alcohol-free late-night events on Friday and Saturday nights. The grants are funded through the UI Provost's Office and the office of the Vice President for Student Services.
"Let's be honest -- house parties are going to get boring faster than you think," reads the
website calling for student event proposals.
