The University of Iowa is leasing one building of The Lodge apartments in Iowa City for one year as a temporary off-campus dormitory to help accommodate a record class of incoming students this year.
Tom Rocklin, interim vice president for student services, announced the leasing arrangement Wednesday. He said UI will lease the building and staff it and operate it as a typical campus residence hall with a Cambus stop and residence services.
Rocklin says the Lodge space will accommodate 160 students.
He says that with The Lodge and a separate deal for units in an apartment building on College Street, he hopes the school will have student housing needs covered this fall.
UI anticipates a record class of incoming first-year students this fall - 4,500 students or about 200 more than the largest class ever.
