Beginning this fall on August 19-21, the University of Iowa will introduce an immersion program for incoming Freshman students, an University of Iowa Press release said.
Known as “On Iowa!,” the program will serve as a welcome and orientation for the first year students, helping them to connect with each other, learn about University of Iowa traditions and transition to life at college.
Throughout the duration of the program students will receive an introduction to life at the University and learn more about necessary skills while receiving their education at the University. Goal-setting, safety and wellness will be emphasized.
On Friday, August 19, students will also have the opportunity take the field at Kinnick Stadium, where a photo is planned to be taken of the Class of 2015. A surprise keynote speaker will also be on hand to address the class.
Convocation will take place on the Pentacrest and a block party at the home of UI President Sally Mason will cap off “On Iowa!” on Sunday afternoon.
According to the press release, “On Iowa!” grew from recommendations by the UI Student Success Team, a cross-campus group committed to fostering undergraduate achievement.
