Suspended professor upset about pay cut

Jul. 7, 2011 7:40 am
A University of Iowa professor who has earned more than $100,000 while on paid leave is denouncing a $300 cut in his salary.
UI radiology professor Malik Juweid has been barred from campus since January after he was accused of disruptive behavior. The university has started a process that could lead to his dismissal.
Juweid contends in a lawsuit he is being retaliated against after making claims of discrimination and wrongdoing against his superiors. The university denies that and says Juweid sent repeated unprofessional e-mails to colleagues.
Juweid learned last week his salary was reduced by roughly $300 to $241,000, and he reacted with angry e-mails to school officials. He says he'll amend his lawsuit to mention the pay cut, which he calls "further evidence of retaliation."
