Regent Michael Gartner in a recent opinion piece called next year's 6 percent tuition increase "wrong on every front."
Gartner, of Des Moines, was one of two regents to vote against the 6 percent increase at a meeting earlier this month, in a 7-2 vote. His column detailing why he disagrees with the increase ran in a recent issue of Cityview, an alternative weekly publication in Des Moines.
Gartner calls the tuition increase a mistake and says it's bad for students and parents in the short run and bad for the universities and recruitment in the long run. Read the column
