Public hearings set Monday to sell flooded Cedar Rapids school district property

The Cedar Rapids school board will have two public hearings Monday for the purpose of disposing of district property damaged in the 2008 flood.
Sniggol Holdings, LLC has signed a $110,100 purchase agreement for the purchase of district property located at 405 First Avenue SW, otherwise known as the Carpenter Paint Shop.
The Neighborhood Development Corporation has signed a $200,000 purchase agreement for the purchase of District property located at 605 G Avenue NW, also known as the district warehouse.
The Educational Service Center, the ESC Annex, the carpenter/paint shop, the main warehouse and the food service warehouse were damaged by floodwaters in 2008. Several parties have expressed interest in the facilities, which have been cleaned, and continuously climate-controlled and maintained since the flood.
The district opened for bids for the facilities in September. Also on the table is a district-owned surface parking lot at Second Avenue and Fifth Street SW.
None of the district facilities will be needed by the district once the new Educational Leadership & Support Center opens in May. An update on that project will be presented to board members Monday.
Money received from selling the facilities will go into the district's school infrastructure local-option sales tax fund.
The public hearings are scheduled for 5 p.m. The school board meeting will follow the hearings. Both the hearings and the meeting will be held in the board room, room 305, at the Educational Service Center @ Kingston.
