IOWA CITY - Word is that parents will show up in force in support of City High Principal Mark Hanson at the school board meeting tonight.
Phil Hemingway, the father of a City High student, said a lot of parents and some students will be at the meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. He also said a petition is going around asking the board to keep Hanson.
As previously reported, Hanson has submitted his resignation. That's part of the personnel action on the board's consent items tonight. That's typically a portion of the meeting that draws little discussion and is quickly approved. It doesn't seem like that will be the case this time.
Some parents have been calling on the board to not accept Hanson's resignation. Of course, there's the question of whether that's what Hanson wants. While the item linked to above notes that some people believe Hanson was forced out, it's important to remember that he submitted his resignation.
