CEDAR RAPIDS - The Montessori school located within the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids is hosting a sale after closing permanently.
All classroom items from My Iman Montessori and Academy will be up for sale Thursday through Saturday at the Islamic Center, 2999 First Ave. SW.
Board chairwoman Surriah Igram confirmed the school was closing permanently because of low enrollment.
Two classrooms' worth of educational materials and office furniture will be available for purchase starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, according to a Facebook page. The sale ends Saturday.
Books and other material for young students on math, geography, art, language and more will be available. Other items include file cabinets, bookshelves, cubbies and a full-sized refrigerator.
My Iman Montessori and Academy opened in 2009 and taught children ages 3 though 8, according to the school's website.
The school, according to the website, taught a traditional elementary program for first and second grades and a Montessori program for its preschool and kindergarten students.
Students received religious education through the Islamic studies and Quran lessons offered at the school.
The Montessori method is a child-centered approach based on self-directed activity and hands-on learning. Other Montessori schools exist in the Corridor, including the Cedar Valley Montessori in Cedar Rapids, the Montessori School of Marion and the Montessori School of Iowa City.
