Mount Vernon school district voters agreed Tuesday to renew a 10-year physical plant and equipment levy that will generate $280,000 a year for maintenance and construction costs.
The vote was 226 to 95, according to unofficial results from the Linn County Auditor's Office. Turnout was 6.6 percent.
Superintendent Pamela Ewell said $140,000 of the annual $280,000 generated by the levy will go to immediate maintenance costs. The other half will be pooled to help fund new capitol projects, such as new classrooms at the elementary school or a new heating and cooling system at the district's middle school.
