Making back-to-school time a success: Tips from Horizons

What comes to mind when thinking about back-to-school season: the excitement of new beginnings, or maybe nervous anxiety of the unknown? Whether the start of another school year is a time of joy or sorrow, Horizons Mental Health Counseling and Horizons iCan Counseling Services take a moment to offer a few tips for making the back-to-school transition a smooth one.
1. Start a nightly bedtime routine, and carry it through on the weekends as well.
2. Lay out clothes to wear on the night before.
3. Eat a healthy breakfast.
4. Send your child off with a special treat, maybe a note in their backpack that's sure to cause a smile.
5. Check over your child's completed homework to catch any trouble spots sooner rather than later.
