Lawmakers expand inquiry into Iowa school board group

Leaders of a legislative committee will extend their inquiry into spending by the Iowa Association of School Boards, pointing to thousands in misspent tax dollars that haven't been repaid.
After hearing the results of an independent audit, Sen. Rich Olive of Story City and Rep. Vicki Lensing of Iowa City agreed Thursday that an investigation of the association should continue. Olive and Lensing head the Government Oversight Committee that has been looking into reports of excessive salaries and questionable spending at the association.
The audit found much of that spending hadn't been repaid.
Veronica Stalker, the association's interim executive director, says new leaders are taking the investigation seriously and changing policies blamed for the problems.
