Congressman Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa announced today that Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids will receive $600,000 from the National Science Foundation's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholars Program.
This funding will help 58 academically talented students who are in financial need earn an associate degree in a STEM discipline to prepare them for the workplace or for further education at a four-year institution.
"Degrees in science- and math-related fields will prepare Iowa students for 21st Century careers," said Loebsack. "I am pleased that Kirkwood has received this funding to continue to enrich the lives of students and prepare them for a bright future."
This grant continues Kirkwood's commitment to encouraging students to study STEM fields. In addition to direct financial aid, participating students will also have access to collaborative learning opportunities, mentoring, and tutoring.
