CEDAR RAPIDS-About 60 Cedar Rapids area kids played with mega blocks while learning about the construction industry. The event was held by the local chapter of National Association of Women in Construction at Kirkwood Community College. Kids were given 100 blocks and tasked with making something construction related. They could use play money to purchase rocks, strings and foil. Most kids made bridges or landscape architectural designs. The event helps to promote awareness about construction jobs specifically for women.
"We'd really like to give them the time to use their creativity and open their eye to careers they haven't maybe thought of,” said NAWIC President Darby Winger.
The winners ranging from first and sixth grade won trophies in two divisions.
