Sep. 21, 2009 3:20 pm
Jefferson High School's Band of Blue marching band has been chosen to perform during the 2009 Holiday Bowl festivities in San Diego.
The band will perform during the Holiday Bowl halftime show and the Big Bay Balloon Parade Dec. 30. The Holiday Bowl halftime show is traditionally known as one of the most extravagant and highly publicized shows of the college football bowl season.
The 200-member marching band, under the direction of Thad Driskell and Andy Houk, will join with other marching bands from across the country. They are the only marching band chosen from the state of Iowa. The bands were selected based on outstanding musical performance, geography, and the strength of community support.
The mass band will assemble together in San Diego for three days of intense rehearsal. Between the game and parade, they will perform in front of 160,000 spectators.
The Jefferson Band of Blue has also performed at the 1995 and 2001 Orange Parade, the 1998 Tournament of Roses Parade, the 1999 Fiesta Parade, the 2004 Pan-Pacific Parade in Oahu, Hawaii, and the 2006 Citrus Parade in Orlando, Florida.
