Iowa universities report 42 percent jump in alcohol offenses

(AP) - A new report from the Iowa Board of Regents has found that public universities in the state have seen a 42 percent increase in alcohol-related offenses during the first three months of 2010 compared with the same three months in 2009.

The report released last week found a 53 percent increase in alcohol-related offenses at the University of Iowa in the first three months of 2010. The school also had a 97 percent increase in drunken driving offenses.

At Iowa State University there was a 46 percent increase in alcohol-related offenses. Drunkenness offenses were up 81 percent at the school.

There were marginal increases in disorderly conduct and drunken driving at the University of Northern Iowa. UNI had slight decreases in drunkenness and liquor law violations.
