Iowa school boards group cutting salaries, jobs

Some staffers are losing their jobs and others are losing pay as the Iowa Association of School Boards addresses a half-million-dollar budget shortfall.
The Des Moines Register reports that the association's governing board approved a $6.3 million budget last week that included elimination of Mary Delagardelle's job as head of the association foundation. The budget also eliminated the Skills Iowa program and the job of Susie Olesen, who ran it.
The budget cuts affect the association and its for-profit affiliate, Local Government Services.
The Association of School Boards receives government grants and collects annual dues from Iowa school districts.
The nonprofit association was investigated by the FBI and state agencies last year after The Des Moines Register published a series of reports about executive compensation and other financial problems.
