Students in Iowa are being urged to fill out their census forms.
Iowa Board of Regents executive director Bob Donley says there can be confusion about where students should call home. Donley says census rules show students should count the place where they spend most of their time and sleep as home. He says for many students that will be their campus.
The Iowa regent system has 71,353 students, including 23,111 nonresidents. About 20,000 students live in residence halls. Donley says it is critical students are counted so Iowa communities receive appropriate federal funding.
The board says it is working with the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa in the effort.
