IOWA CITY — Iowa City schools Superintendent Matt Degner’s next three-year contract was unanimously approved Tuesday by the school board.
The contract extends Degner’s term to June 30, 2028.
“We are not allowed to make evaluative comments, and that’s why I’m not saying how much I value (Degner’s) contribution to our district,” school board member Lisa Williams said with a smile.
The three-year contract sets Degner’s salary at $260,494 in the first year, which is an increase of about 4.4 percent over the $249,491 he currently is paid. He would be eligible for an annual salary increase equal to the average percentage increase received by full-time teachers and administrators.
Degner is eligible to participate in a deferred-compensation plan and a supplemental retirement plan equal to 15 percent of his base salary, which is $39,014.
The contract includes benefits and a vehicle allowance of $7,200 for the use of his personal vehicle when conducting official district business.
Degner was named superintendent of the district in January 2021, after serving as interim superintendent for two years prior.
“Thank you for your continued leadership and service to the district as well as the board,” said board president Ruthina Malone.
School board member Jayne Finch was not present at the meeting.
