The Iowa City school district will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new elementary school at 5:30 p.m. May 25.
Norman Borlaug Elementary is scheduled to open at the start of the 2012-13 school year near Camp Cardinal Boulevard and Kennedy Parkway in Coralville.
The school, which will replace Roosevelt Elementary, is named after Iowa native Norman Borlaug, who was a Nobel Peace Prize-winning agronomist known as the father of the "green revolution." He died in 2009.
