IOWA CITY (AP) - More than $16,000 in fines have been levied against the Iowa City School District.
The district was given the fines after inspections from the Occupational Safety and Health Bureau of the Iowa Division of Labor Services in April and May. The district has contested the fines and asked state inspectors to have them reduced.
District official Paul Bobek says the school district has adjusted procedures and any violations should not recur.
The fines were issued for a range of reasons, including asbestos handling, electrical safety procedures and failing to power down a high school softball scoreboard while it was being worked on.
