Heritage Agency Offers Flood Assistance for Area Seniors
N/A
Apr. 16, 2010 5:17 pm
For area seniors who are still recovering from 2008 flooding, a program is still active to offer aid. A program administered by the Heritage Agency on Aging for flood impacted households will end on June 30, 2010. Funds are still available for qualified residents ages 60 and over to assist in continued recovery from area flooding in 2008.
The Heritage Agency received Social Services Emergency Block Grant relief funds in late 2008, as a result of the June 2008 flood. Funds for building materials, clothes, and linens have already been provided to affected seniors in a seven county area covering Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties.
In addition to aid for the aforementioned needs, furnaces, water heaters, and air conditioners (for health conditions only) are now eligible for purchase or reimbursement. Conditions for this assistance include prior ownership of requested items, non-duplication of benefits received, and purchased replacements after October 1, 2008 (with proof of receipt.)
For detailed instructions plus an application, please contact Gail Kaplan at the Heritage Agency, (319) 398-5559, or toll-free, (800) 332-5934.
