Gov. Terry Branstad said he and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds want to virtually visit as many Iowa classrooms as will have them this school year.
Monday, the duo announced the “Skype Your School” campaign that encourages classrooms to sign up for a visit with the governor and/or lieutenant governor through Skype.
Skype is a service that allows users to communicate over the Internet by voice, video and instant messaging. Branstad and Reynolds made the announcement via a Skype feed from the governor's working office to the conference room where he holds his weekly news conferences.
“As we work every day to give these students a world-class education, we believe it is important for them to be engaged with their elected leaders,” Branstad said.
Classrooms interested in a “Skype Your School” chat can sign up by clicking on the featured image on the governor's website at
http://Governor.Iowa.Gov, by requesting a visit in the comments section on Facebook.com/TerryBranstad and Facebook.com/KimReynoldsIA or by using the #SkypeYourSchool hashtag on Twitter.
