An Iowa City couple have donated $100,000 to endow a scholarship for City High School students who travel to Spain.
The gift from Claire and Bob Ashman will be used to help at least one AP Spanish student go on the school's annual trip to Spain starting in spring 2013, according to a news release Monday. The recipients will be determined by their academic success and financial need.
Claire Ashman taught Spanish at South East Junior High for more than 20 years, according to the release.
“The generosity of the Ashmans' gift is overwhelming and very much appreciated,” City High principal John Bacon said in a statement. “Our students will benefit tremendously from this donation.”
