CLARENCE - Why are freshmen from North Cedar's American History class on the news?
The freshmen are doing a project in Kristin Larson's classes about the different battles of the Civil War. They are making a newscast about the battle they chose during the Civil War.
For the two-week project, students had to research 16 questions about the specific battle and then make a script from their answers of those questions for the news report. Students were required to have two- table reporter's, one on-scene reporter, one camera person and one editor.
The two table reporters stayed at the table and asked the scene reporter questions about what was happening, what it's like to be there at the battle and the on-scene reporter talked about the details of the battle and the war in general.
Chloe Kelly and Rachel Hart were the table reporters for the battle of Gettysburg.
'I like finding my own information and creating my movie about Gettysburg,” Kelly said.
The camera person and editor covering the battle of Gettysburg was Chad Sulzner.
Another battle was Cold Harbor, which was reported on by Callie Meyer, Kira Jones and Samantha Nanke.
'I was shocked by the number of soldiers killed in this battle,” Jones said. 'It was a fun project when we were not having technical difficulties.”
