DUBUQUE - Clarke College has received the largest donation in the school's history, a $10 million gift from the estate of Marie Moles Miske, a 1942 graduate.
Miske directed the gift toward the college's endowment fund. Clarke's endowment is invested for the long-term benefit of the school and to further the institutional mission.
Miske graduated from Clarke in 1942 with a degree in food and nutrition. She served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. She was stationed in the South Pacific as a dietitian in the Medical Corps under the surgeon general.
She later was a dietitian administrator supervising 21 schools in the Evanston, Ill., school district and was employed by the Walgreen's Corporation for 15 years. Miske passed away in March 2007 at the age of 86.
