Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 around the world. Pi (Greek letter “p”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant - the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter - which is approximately 3.14159.
Because its definition relates to the circle, p is found in many formulae in trigonometry and geometry, especially those concerning circles, ellipses, or spheres. It is also found in formulae from other branches of science, such as cosmology, number theory, statistics, and mechanics.
