Applications ready for Iowa City, UI home program

The city of Iowa City is accepting applications for a homeownership program it is undertaking with the University of Iowa.

The first three homes of the UniverCity Neighborhood Partnership have been acquired, and people interested in buying one of them must apply by noon May 7. The properties are at 1207 Muscatine Ave., 517 S. Governor St. and 310 Douglass Ct.

The joint program is aimed at making available affordable, owner-occupied homes near the UI campus and downtown. The partnership plans to purchase and rehabilitate 20 rental properties and sell them to income-qualifying individuals or families.
