Cedar Rapids schools to continue to offer free, half-day preschool at Truman and other elementary schools while state lawmakers have not acted on funding for full-day programs.

Renovations to the Roosevelt Creative Corridor Business Academy added to the plan with the intent to combine the middle school with Wilson, which would become an elementary school.

The district began providing devices to all students shortly after closing to students in March 2020 for the pandemic. That 1-to-1 program will remain, but students in kindergarten through fifth grade now will keep their devices at school. Families can opt in to letting their children taking a device home.

Full-day preschool will be offered at all 20 elementary schools in the Iowa City Community School District beginning this fall.
