The Jesup boys’ basketball team had to win four games to get to the state tournament because it was a ‘3’ seed in its district. it upset Cascade, MFL MarMac and North Fayette Valley along the way. All of which made a 69-38 Class 2A quarterfinal loss to top-ranked Western Christian sting a lot less.

North Fayette Valley’s boys’ basketball team ran the table in the regular season but has never been included in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s rankings this season and was given a ‘2’ seed in its district. The TigerHawks beat top-seeded Aplington-Parkersburg in a Class 2A district final Tuesday night and are a win away from their first state tournament appearance.

Alburnett’s Rowdy Neighbor and Preston Klostermann closed their prep careers in the Class 1A boys’ state wrestling finals Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Both placed second, helping the Pirates to a second-place team finish.
