Tyler Nagelbach pitched eight shutout innings and Jaden Hackbarth delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th in Mount Mercy’s 1-0 win over Heart of America Athletic Conference leader Grand View Friday at Plaster Athletic Complex. Grand View earned the split with a 9-6 win in the nightcap.
Joel Vaske spent the fall working a full-time job, helping on his family’s farm and coaching high school football. His competitive nature led him back to Mount Mercy for one last baseball season.
Mount Mercy senior Kyle Moeder shared a passion for baseball with his late father, Tony, who died earlier this week after a long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. He took the field Friday, using baseball as an escape for himself and a tribute to his dad.
After baseball took Kaimana Souza-Paaluhi from Honolulu to Lawrence, Kan., his road led him to close his playing career at Mount Mercy.
