A key member of Penn State's NCAA champion wrestling team is facing sex assault charges after allegedly trying to rape an unconscious victim.
State College police charged 22-year-old Andrew Long on Friday in an assault that allegedly happened early that morning.
Court documents say Long was released on unsecured bail the same day. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
Long finished third at 133 pounds in this year's NCAA championships, helping the Nittany Lions win their first team title since 1953.
Long transferred to Penn State after two years at Iowa State, where he was the 2010 NCAA runner-up at 125 pounds.
A phone message left for the athletic department by The Associated Press was not immediately returned.
Long doesn't have a listed phone number.
Long experienced trouble at Iowa State, having a pair of alcohol related offenses with law enforcement in Ames. He was the 125-pound NCAA runner-up in 2010, but was suspended from the team months later. Long was working his way back on the team when he left for State College and was released from his scholarship by the Cyclones.
Look back to when Iowa State and Long first announced they were parting ways in early December:
