AMES — Kanen Storr appeared to be one of the cornerstones of Iowa State wrestling's rebuilding project under new head coach Kevin Dresser.
The redshirt freshman will no longer be a part of the Cyclones program.
Iowa State announced that Storr requested and was granted a release to transfer, according to a news release Tuesday. Storr will not finish the season with the Cyclones.
'Kanen (Storr) requested permission to transfer to another institution,' Dresser said in the release. 'I am going to honor that request and allow him the one-time transfer exception.'
Storr was 15-7 this season. He red-shirted his first season under former head coach Kevin Jackson and went 25-5, placing fifth at the 2016 Midlands.
Storr, is a native of Leslie, Mich., and would be a good fit for the Wolverines at 141. According to a story by wrestling writer Andy Hamilton when Storr committed to Iowa State, Storr said he had made a connection with the previous Iowa State coaches. Former Cyclone assistant Travis Paulson is an assistant at the University of Virginia.
