IOWA CITY - Iowa State University officials will seek state regents approval next week to install a $4 million video scoreboard and sound system at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.
ISU officials want to replace and relocate the scoreboard and sound system that were purchased in 2002. The scoreboard is in the south end zone. In many areas of the stadium, it is difficult to understand the audio output, ISU officials said in the meeting information released Thursday.
ISU officials want to install a video scoreboard and sound system at the north end of the stadium, to be integrated with the Richard O. Jacobson Building.
Plans include creating a bowl in the south end zone and adding an upper deck, which would require removal of the south video scoreboard. That work is not scheduled, but proceeding with the scoreboard relocation would allow the south end zone phase to be completed between football seasons instead of a more costly split construction period over two football seasons, officials said.
ISU plans to finance the $4 million with payments of about $556,400 per year for 10 years.
