AMES - KCRG.com has confirmed that the Iowa State Cyclones have accepted a bid to play in the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Arizona, on December 31.
The Cyclones finished with a 6-6 record in the Big 12 Conference under first-season coach Paul Rhoads.
“We are thrilled to be heading to the Insight Bowl,” said Head Coach Paul Rhoads. “The trip is a reward to our players, who did what many people felt they couldn't do. It is also a reward for our fans, whose tremendous turnout in Arizona in 2000 paved the way for this return trip. I was on the other sideline (Pitt) when Iowa State played in the 2000 game and remember the roar from Cyclone fans when Iowa State took the field. The Insight Bowl is first-class in every respect, and we look forward to a great game and a great trip for our fans.”
Iowa State has played in the Insight Bowl once previously, defeating Pittsburgh, 37-29 in 2000.
A press conference is scheduled for 4:30 in Ames. More details to come.
